Arizona Department of Public Safety officials have confirmed the identities of the victims involved in a tragic two-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 that occurred on Saturday, September 14. Pronounced dead at the scene were 26-year-old Juan Emilio Moreno from Sunland Park, New Mexico, and 34-year-old Christina Cecilia Sanchez from El Paso, Texas. In addition to the fatalities, three individuals were airlifted to nearby hospitals due to their injuries. While two of them have since been treated and released, one remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The collision transpired around 5:10 p.m. at milepost 291 in San Simon, close to the New Mexico border. According to DPS, a semi-truck traveling east experienced a tire blowout, which caused it to veer into oncoming traffic, crashing into a westbound SUV carrying five occupants.

As a result of the crash, both westbound lanes of I-10 were closed for 11 hours, diverting traffic onto U.S. Highway 70 in Lordsburg, New Mexico, then through Duncan and Safford, before reconnecting with I-10.
