A man and a woman lost their lives when their vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire on Sydney’s Northern Beaches late last night. The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation in Balgowlah when their black Toyota Corolla collided with a tree and erupted in flames.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. Tragically, both occupants of the car, Mathew Wong, 23, and Kasia Kulary, 26, who were well-known car enthusiasts, did not survive the crash.
Earlier in the evening, Wong and Kulary had attended a car meet-up in Mosman with Car Culture Australia, a group they had been involved with for several years. Kulary’s family expressed their grief, stating, “Kasia was, and still is, the light of all of our lives. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.”
Police have established a crime scene, and specialist officers are conducting an investigation to determine if speed played a role in the incident. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
