Matthew Wong and Kasia Kulary, who tragically lost their lives in a fiery car accident in Balgowlah, Sydney, have been identified. The incident occurred on Wednesday night as the pair were returning from a car meet. Wong, aged 23, was driving a Toyota Corolla when he collided with a tree on Burnt Bridge Deviation, causing a significant explosion at approximately 10:45 p.m. Both Wong and Kulary, aged 26, were pronounced dead at the scene before emergency responders could arrive.
On Thursday, friends of the victims gathered at the crash site to pay their respects and lay flowers in memory of the car enthusiasts. Daisy, a friend of Kulary, described her as an extraordinary individual with a vibrant future ahead. Kulary’s brother, Czars Kulary, referred to her as “the light of all of our lives.”
The crash, which occurred while the victims were traveling home from a car meet near Taronga Zoo, is currently under investigation by the police. Witnesses reported hearing a loud screech followed by a crash and subsequent shouting as people tried to assist.
Authorities suggest that speeding was likely a contributing factor to the accident, with local residents noting that the road is known for dangerous driving behavior. Traffic and Highway Patrol Assistant Commissioner David Driver emphasized the importance of careful driving and awareness on the roads.
A report will be submitted to the coroner, and police are seeking any information or dashcam footage related to the crash.
