Fatal East Village shooting death of Alex Bailey – Obituary.
A man has been apprehended following a deadly shooting and stabbing incident that occurred on Tuesday night in East Village, as reported by local police on Wednesday.
Authorities took 53-year-old Alex Bailey into custody during a traffic stop at 2800 National Avenue around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Detectives suspect Bailey was involved in the shooting of a man near the intersection of 14th Street and Imperial Avenue at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Witnesses indicate that a group gathered on the sidewalk became embroiled in an altercation, which resulted in Bailey allegedly shooting the victim while another suspect stabbed him. Both assailants fled the scene in separate directions, as stated by Lt. Jud Campbell of the SDPD.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim on the sidewalk suffering from both gunshot and stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after, according to Campbell.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office has not yet confirmed the victim’s identity, but he has been described as a 53-year-old man. Police are currently working to formally charge Bailey with murder.
