Derris Deshaun Woods, 35, and Brittany Hall, 28, were tragically found shot to death inside a charred home in DeKalb County, Georgia. The grim discovery was made a week after a massive fire engulfed the residence, with the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office releasing new information about the deaths.
Woods’ mother, Deidere Waters, is searching for answers about her son’s tragic death. Woods, who was in a relationship with Hall, was found in his Cohassett Lane home on September 9, which had been severely damaged by a fire that partially collapsed the structure, preventing firefighters from conducting a full search until the blaze was contained. The bodies of both victims were discovered once the fire was extinguished.
“We’re both trying to make sense of this and seek justice for our loved ones,” Waters shared with FOX 5’s Deidra Dukes.
Authorities have made an arrest in Meridian, Mississippi, but details about the suspect, including his name, have not been disclosed by the DeKalb County Police Department.
Waters pleaded for anyone with information to come forward, as the families struggle to comprehend the shocking events.
“Derris was an amazing person—kind, outgoing, and always willing to help others,” Waters said. “He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a sweet kid.”
She expressed disbelief over the violence that claimed her son and Hall, stating that neither she nor Woods’ friends recognize the suspect now in custody.
“I have no idea who this person is,” Waters said. “I’ve never seen him before, and I can’t fathom why he would have been involved with my son.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as the families of Woods and Hall await answers.
