A tragic accident occurred in Salisbury, North Carolina, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the death of 84-year-old Elemer Lee Carpenter from Winston-Salem. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident involved Carpenter’s box truck as the sole vehicle.
The crash transpired around 12:15 p.m. on September 19 along Interstate 85 South near Exit 72. Reports indicate that Carpenter was driving southbound when he veered off the road into the median, struck a guardrail, and then collided with an overhead highway sign.
Following the impact, the box truck ignited, and unfortunately, Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene.
