Authorities report that a father, 47-year-old Johnny Lewis Stevenson Jr., was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight involving his daughter and several other girls in Florida City. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Northwest 14th Street and 1st Court.
According to the police, Stevenson intervened in the altercation when 22-year-old Kentarian Cross allegedly drew a firearm and shot him in the stomach. Stevenson was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle before being airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Cross is now facing charges of second-degree murder with a weapon. Witnesses at the scene identified him as the shooter, and police reported that he was seen with a gun prior to the incident.
