Lee Pankhurst dies in fatal A130 crash near Rayleigh
Fatal A130 crash death of Lee Pankhurst – Obituary.
Lee Pankhurst, a 37-year-old man, tragically lost his life in a severe accident on the A130, where his vehicle overturned and caught fire. The incident occurred early on September 4, close to the roundabout leading to the A1245.
Following the crash, Pankhurst was transported to the Royal London Hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that morning. The A130 was closed north of Benfleet for much of the day as authorities conducted their investigation.
An inquest into his death commenced at Essex Coroners’ Court in Chelmsford on September 19. Area Coroner Michelle Brown reported that Pankhurst, a resident of Leigh-on-Sea, died at the hospital after the accident.
According to the coroner, on the day of the incident, Pankhurst was driving alone on the A130 toward Rayleigh when he was unable to navigate the roundabout, leading to the car flipping over and igniting. Although he was quickly hospitalized, he unfortunately did not survive. Essex Police stated that no prosecutions are being pursued, and preliminary findings indicated that head and chest injuries were the cause of death.
Police were alerted to the collision involving a single vehicle around 4:30 a.m. on September 4.
