ST. LOUIS — Authorities reported the arrest of two individuals linked to a deadly shooting in the Mark Twain/I-70 Industrial area.
Kevin Jackson, 47, faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was apprehended on Thursday and is currently in custody. A second suspect, James Pickett, 51, was arrested on Friday and is also charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
The victim, identified as Montrez Heart, 24, from Hillsdale, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital on July 12. He was reportedly unable to communicate with police during the initial response.
The shooting is now being treated as a homicide. Heart was critically injured and transported to the hospital after the incident, but he could not provide officers with details about what transpired.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
As of 2024, the St. Louis region has witnessed at least 199 fatalities related to violent incidents.
