Fatal Maui shooting death of Shawn Lewis – Obituary
Shawn Lewis, a 42-year-old resident of Lahaina, was tragically found dead following a shooting incident on Monday. His passing has deeply affected the community, which fondly remembers him as a joyful surfer who brought happiness to those around him.
Affectionately known as “Bigfoot” due to an amputated leg, Lewis was celebrated for his positive attitude. “He embraced his nickname,” shared friend Zane Kekoa Schweitzer with a smile.
Lewis’s vibrant personality shone brightly at surf spots like Launiupoko and Ukumehame, where he was a familiar and friendly presence. “He was always having a good time and spreading kindness,” recalled Brandon Satoshige, another friend.
Despite his disability, Lewis continued to pursue his passion for surfing, even competing internationally. “He radiated joy and dedicated himself to the surf community,” noted Schweitzer, emphasizing Lewis’s commitment to volunteering with keiki ocean programs.
His unexpected death has left many in shock, especially as he had recently been active in community initiatives. “We’re all heartbroken, especially with our program coming up this Sunday where he was supposed to help,” Schweitzer said.
