Samantha Brown, the mother of one of McConnell’s children, expressed her devastation upon learning about his death. She described him as the funniest person she knew, recalling, “He was a real lively person. I mean, it was never a dull moment when he was around.” Brown revealed that she was overcome with emotion, saying, “I just broke down crying because I was like, ‘This can’t be true. This can’t be real.’”
Brown also stated she was unaware of any disputes between McConnell and his neighbor. A resident from across the street, Jackie Marie Williams, recounted hearing what sounded like an explosion, stating, “We heard a noise like a boom, like something exploded, and that was it.” After the gunfire, Williams ventured outside to see what had occurred.
“We saw people standing outside, and we went over there and looked at the body,” she shared. “It was laying down. It was kind of sideways, and blood was coming from up under his neck, and it was all on his shirt.”
The family confirmed McConnell’s identity to WKRG News 5, following the homicide that took place Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect has not been publicly identified but is currently in custody for questioning. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a long-standing conflict between the two neighbors. Authorities have indicated that one neighbor was responsible for the fatal shooting.
