Fatal Wise County shooting death of Elvin Ray Fox – Obituary.
Elvin Ray Fox, 65, was fatally shot by Wise County deputies Wednesday night after a confrontation involving a knife, according to officials. The incident is currently under investigation by authorities.
The Wise County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Fox, a resident of Bridgeport. Deputies responded to a call around 11:20 p.m. regarding a family disturbance at a residence on Farm to Market Road 920, southwest of Bridgeport. The caller reported that a family member, allegedly under the influence of drugs, was causing a disturbance by banging on the door.
When deputies arrived around 11:45 p.m., a silver Dodge pickup was seen leaving the scene. A deputy pursued the vehicle, activating emergency lights, as the truck headed south on FM 920. The chase concluded when the driver, later identified as Fox, turned onto a private road and stopped.
Deputies ordered Fox to exit the truck, but he emerged holding a large skinning knife. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Fox did not comply. A deputy deployed a taser, but Fox lunged at one of the deputies with the knife, prompting deputies to open fire.
Life-saving measures were attempted on Fox, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Medical personnel also responded. The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the shooting.
