Fatal Wise County shooting death of Elvin Ray Fox – Obituary.
A man was shot and killed by deputies in Wise County on Wednesday night while reportedly brandishing a knife. The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Elvin Ray Fox from Bridgeport.
Around 11:20 p.m., dispatchers received a call regarding a family disturbance at a residence off Farm to Market Road 920. The caller indicated that a relative, believed to be under the influence of drugs, was causing a ruckus at his home.
When deputies arrived at approximately 11:45 p.m., a silver Dodge pickup truck sped away from the location. One deputy pursued the vehicle, activating emergency lights. The chase proceeded south on FM 920, with Fox, the driver, refusing to pull over until he turned onto a private road and stopped.
Upon exiting the truck, Fox was seen wielding a large skinning knife. Despite commands to drop the weapon, he did not comply. A deputy deployed a taser, but Fox lunged at the deputy with the knife, prompting deputies to fire multiple rounds to neutralize the threat.
Life-saving efforts were administered, but Fox succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene. The Texas Rangers are now investigating the incident.
