Fatal Minneapolis shooting death of Robert Milton Brown – Obituary.

In a tragic series of incidents, 39-year-old Robert Milton Brown was identified as one of the victims killed in a shooting near a homeless encampment in Minneapolis. Alongside him, 20-year-old Roland Scott Littleowl also lost his life in these violent events.

Authorities are currently clearing the encampment following three shootings within a 24-hour span, two of which were deadly. The first incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. in an alley on the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South, where a man in his twenties was found shot in the head and later died at the scene. Another victim, a man in his thirties, sustained a neck injury and was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover.

Police recovered a firearm at the scene but do not believe it was discharged, leading them to suspect a third individual was involved. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara mentioned they have substantial information on a potential suspect, although a motive remains unclear.

Later that same day, another shooting claimed the life of a man in his thirties on the 2500 block of Bloomington Avenue. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head and succumbed to his injuries on-site. Witnesses reported a group approached him before the gunfire erupted.

A subsequent shooting occurred around 7:20 p.m. on the 2300 block of 17th Avenue South, leaving another man with critical injuries, who was transported for urgent medical care. A suspect was apprehended soon after near 26th Street East and 17th Avenue South in connection with all three shootings.

O’Hara expressed pride in his team’s quick response, stating, “I’m grateful for the dedicated work of our officers who acted swiftly to capture a suspect involved in this shooting spree.” He also indicated that once the crime scene is processed, the encampment will be cleared.

Residents have voiced frustration over ongoing issues related to the encampment, citing rampant drug activity, violence, and the negative impact on their community. Neighbor Linda Leonard remarked, “We’ve had gunfire and illegal activity for months. It’s no surprise this happened.”

Leonard criticized the goodwill efforts of outsiders delivering supplies to the encampment, saying it exacerbates local issues and leads to property damage. Mayor Jacob Frey is advocating for new strategies to ensure public safety and prevent future encampments.

Frey emphasized the city’s commitment to addressing these concerns and reducing the prevalence of shootings near encampments, highlighting that a significant percentage of shooting victims in the area were linked to such locations. Recent discussions between city leaders and community members aimed to address public safety concerns following a series of violent events, including the tragic death of a young girl in a hit-and-run and a boy being shot.
