Joe Gowers, a former trainer for the London Nationals and St. Marys Lincolns hockey teams, was identified by loved ones on social media as the victim of a deadly motorcycle crash in south London on Friday. The London Police Service has not yet released any official statement regarding his identity.
Gowers, who was well-regarded in the local hockey community, served as a trainer for the London Nationals from 2012 to 2022 before joining the St. Marys Lincolns in 2023. The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) expressed its condolences on social media, mourning the sudden loss of Gowers and offering thoughts and sympathies to his family and friends.
The London Nationals also honored Gowers in a tribute post, praising his positive energy and commitment to the team. They described him as a caring individual whose impact on those around him will not be forgotten.
In addition to his work with hockey teams, Gowers was an active member of Bikers Against Child Abuse, specifically with the Railway City Ontario Chapter. A post from “The Legacy Chapter,” a non-profit group connected to the organization, revealed that Gowers, also known as “Poet,” was returning home from his aunt’s funeral near St. Thomas, Ontario, on September 20, when he was involved in the fatal collision. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital in London but succumbed to his injuries.
The post mentioned that Gowers’ friends and loved ones were able to say their goodbyes before he passed away. Gowers served as the Biker Liaison and Events Coordinator for the Railway City group, where he was highly regarded by his peers.
