In a tragic incident, two men were shot in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego on the night of September 14, 2024. San Diego Police have arrested a suspect connected to this shooting, which took place around 9:39 p.m. in the 1700 block of Newton Avenue.
Responding to reports of gunfire, officers found the two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim, identified as 28-year-old Osnaider Silveira, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 23-year-old Junior Alastre, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Both men are believed to have recently immigrated from Venezuela, though their names were withheld initially to allow for family notifications.
According to preliminary investigations by San Diego Police Homicide Detectives, Silveira and Alastre were near a parked vehicle when a suspect approached and opened fire. The assailant has been described as a Hispanic male in his thirties, with short hair and a full beard, dressed in dark clothing. Following the shooting, he entered a white 2012 Kia Forte that belonged to one of the victims. Upon realizing there was a woman in the backseat, he ordered her out before fleeing the scene.
The following day, the Kia was discovered in the Los Angeles area with a man fitting the suspect’s description inside. With the help of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office, authorities apprehended the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Guillermo David Gonzalez of National City, without incident. He has been booked into the San Diego County Jail on charges of two counts of murder, carjacking, and robbery. Detectives are actively working to gather physical evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage from the area.
