Fatal Melbourne shooting death of Devon Lakes – Obituary.
Authorities in Melbourne are investigating a shooting incident at the Eddie Lee Taylor, Sr. Community Complex that resulted in the death of one individual and left another in critical condition on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Devon Lakes from Palm Bay, who was a victim in one of two shootings that occurred in south Melbourne near the area formerly known as Lipscomb Park.
Detectives stated that their inquiries revealed no connection between the deadly shooting at the park and a separate incident earlier that day, which critically injured a third individual. At the time of the fatal shooting, a large crowd had gathered at the park due to youth football games. Additionally, a substantial number of attendees were present following the funeral of Craig “Dew” Dewberry Jr., a 27-year-old Palm Bay resident who was shot and killed on September 10 during a robbery at Tip Top Mini Mart on Monroe Street. A 21-year-old man from Homestead faces first-degree murder charges in connection with that incident.
The sequence of events on Saturday unfolded as follows: At 3:25 p.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of Camphor Way, a short residential road near Lipscomb Street, where a man had been critically injured by gunfire. Witnesses reported that an unidentified shooter emerged from a light-colored vehicle and opened fire on the victim and at least one other male in a nearby driveway before fleeing the scene.
Later, at 7:24 p.m., while investigators were still present at Camphor Way, gunfire erupted at the entrance of the park off Monroe Street. In this incident, one man was killed in a parking lot, and another was critically wounded.
