Pennsylvania State Police, along with family members, confirmed that Glen “Jose” Leon Veliz, a 38-year-old from Reading, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 81 South in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County. The crash occurred on Saturday, August 31, at approximately 5:16 p.m., near mile marker 82.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation rerouted traffic at exit 85 in South Hanover Township following the crash. The road was reopened around 9:19 p.m., as previously reported by Daily Voice, according to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler.
Veliz was riding a 2015 Yamaha FZ09 when his motorcycle was struck from behind by a 2024 Toyota Camry driven by 53-year-old Ted Miller of Emmaus, according to the police report. First responders from South Central EMS were on the scene.
Authorities confirmed that Leon Veliz was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, while Miller was using a seatbelt. Police indicated that Miller might face charges for “Following Too Closely” under section 3310A, though no formal charges had been filed at the time of reporting.
Veliz is survived by his daughter, mother, brother, and other family members, as shared by his brother on social media. No further personal details have been released by the family.
