Fatal Pike County bus crash claims the lives of Gregory Young and Brandy Simmons – Obituary.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of two individuals killed in a tragic accident on Highway 98 in Pike County, Mississippi, Thursday night. The Mississippi Highway Patrol identified the victims as Gregory Young of McComb, age 51, and Brandy Simmons of Magnolia, age 46.
The collision involved a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by Young and a 2011 MCI bus transporting the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s “Band of Gold” to a football game at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit. The crash occurred just west of the Pike County-Walthall County line.
According to officials, Young was driving north on Pike 93, crossing over Highway 98, when his vehicle collided with the westbound bus. Both Young and Simmons were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College confirmed that none of the students aboard the bus were injured in the accident.
MGCCC issued a statement, noting, “An MGCCC college bus was involved in an accident this evening on its way to a football game at Southwest MS Community College. All students are safe and without injury.”
