On Tuesday afternoon, a tragic accident on Interstate 91 in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, resulted in the death of James MacPherson, 38, from Manchester. The fatal crash occurred around 1:18 p.m. when a 2002 Ford F-150 driven by MacPherson veered off the right shoulder of the highway between exits 42 and 41. The truck re-entered traffic, hitting a 2024 Toyota Tacoma and subsequently rolled over into a grassy area.
James MacPherson was rushed to Hartford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A female passenger, a 37-year-old from Florida, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The driver of the Toyota, a 27-year-old man from Vermont, escaped unharmed and declined medical attention at the scene.
Following the crash, southbound lanes of I-91 were closed for hours between exits 41 and 40, causing significant traffic delays, with backups extending as far as exits 46 and 47 in Enfield. Secondary roads, including Route 140, were also heavily congested.
The accident remains under investigation, and state police are seeking any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area at the time. Those with information are urged to contact Trooper Michael Dean.
