Fatal San Jose shooting death of Regulus “Reggie” Teotico – Obituary.

A man from San Jose, California, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of his coworker over an alleged gambling debt. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reported that Duc Minh Bui, 33, was taken into custody near his home shortly after noon on Sunday, September 22.

The victim, Regulus “Reggie” Teotico, aged 45, was confirmed as the deceased. Bui now faces charges of first-degree murder, according to reports from KTVU. Authorities indicated that evidence points to Bui being solely responsible for Teotico’s death, with both individuals employed by the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, September 20, at the Chaboya Division Yard, as noted by the sheriff’s office. Earlier, on September 21, they announced the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident that left one individual deceased.

Teotico, who had a decade-long career with the VTA, was known to socialize with Bui outside of work. According to Sheriff’s Captain Sugey Jaimez, their relationship extended to shared activities unrelated to their jobs. Investigators believe the motive for the shooting was tied to financial disputes arising from their gambling habits.

When emergency responders arrived on South 7th Street near Tully Road in San Jose, they discovered Teotico suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Jaimez stated that there were no indications that Bui posed a threat to anyone.

VTA’s general manager, Carolyn Gonot, remembered Teotico as a dedicated and friendly driver, well-liked among his peers and a father to two teenagers. This incident has revived painful memories of a similar tragedy that occurred three years ago, when a disgruntled employee at the Guadalupe Light Rail Yard fatally shot nine coworkers before taking his own life. County Supervisor Cindy Chavez emphasized the importance of mental health support during this challenging time for the VTA community.
