Fatal Selma, California, hit-and-run death of Robert Leeper – Obituary.
The Selma Police Department identified the pedestrian who lost his life in a DUI hit-and-run incident involving a city employee. The collision occurred on September 20 at approximately 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Floral Avenue and Wright Street.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers found a man with critical injuries, consistent with being hit by a vehicle. This man, later named as Robert Leeper from Selma, tragically did not survive his injuries.
During the investigation, police gathered information that led them to the suspect’s vehicle and location after it fled the scene. They discovered that the driver, 39-year-old Roberto Ramos, was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Ramos was apprehended in connection with the crash.
Further investigation revealed that Ramos was an employee of the City of Selma’s Public Works Department but was off duty and driving his personal car during the incident. He was subsequently booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death, DUI, and other offenses.
