Fatal Augusta car crash death of Casey and Barry Fields – Obituary.
The family of two brothers, Casey and Barry Fields, who they believe were tragically killed in a high-speed pursuit with Augusta police, has started a GoFundMe to collect funds for their memorial service.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, a Blythe police officer attempted to stop a Mercury Sable for speeding on Deans Bridge Road last Friday. The driver, however, refused to pull over and continued northward.
As the vehicle neared the Bath Edie Road intersection, the driver switched into the southbound lanes while still heading north, per GDPS reports. The pursuing Blythe officer did not follow the suspect onto the wrong side of the road.
After traveling about a mile in the wrong lane, the suspect’s vehicle collided head-on with a southbound truck near the Etterle Road intersection. The suspect’s car caught fire, and all three individuals inside were pronounced dead at the scene.
Though autopsy results are pending, a GoFundMe created on Monday identified two of the deceased as Casey and Barry Fields.
The fundraiser states, “On August 16, Casey and Barry lost their lives in a tragic car accident. The vehicle was driving into oncoming traffic, leading to a fatal head-on collision.”
The Fields family is seeking financial assistance for memorial services and has asked for prayers for their parents, Barry Fields and Shakelia Scott. As of Tuesday, the GoFundMe had collected $400 toward its $10,000 goal.
