The family of 16-year-old Sawyer Schipper from West Olive has confirmed his identity as the victim of a tragic single-vehicle accident that occurred in Park Township on Sunday, September 22.
As detailed in an obituary from Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, Schipper was a junior at iCademy and had previously been enrolled at Holland Christian Schools.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident happened around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Eagle Drive. The vehicle left the road and collided with a tree.
Two other passengers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The Sheriff’s Office has not provided updates on their conditions, stating that they do not disclose information regarding minors.

Sawyer is survived by his parents, Mike and Chelsea Schipper; his siblings, Henry and Evie; his grandparents, Fran Kortman, Kerrie (Bill) Bassow, and Mark (Ellen) Schipper; great-grandparents, Juella Schipper Elferink and Evelyn de Vries Myaard; and numerous family members and friends.
A visitation is set for Saturday, September 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Central Wesleyan Church, with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.
