The body of Amy Porter, 43, who had been missing for over a week, was discovered in the San Bernardino County desert on Sunday. Porter, a member of the Morongo Tribe, had been the subject of a Feather Alert after she was last seen on September 14 in the Lake Elsinore area of Riverside County.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed on Monday that the remains found near the 10 Freeway and Wildwood Canyon Road in Yucaipa had been identified as Porter’s. Deputies were called to the location after a medical aid request, and family members, who had been searching the area, located her body. The site is approximately 40 miles northeast of where she was last seen.

Porter was declared dead at the scene. The cause of death has not yet been determined, as it is pending an autopsy.
