Fatal Pike County bus crash death of Gregory Young – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident on Highway 98 in Pike County on Thursday night. The Mississippi Highway Patrol announced the victims’ names as Gregory Young, 51, from McComb, and Brandy Simmons, 46, from Magnolia.

 

The collision involved a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by Young and a 2011 MCI bus transporting the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s “Band of Gold.” The bus was en route to Summit for a football game featuring Southwest Mississippi Community College against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College when the incident occurred just west of the Pike County-Walthall County line.

 

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials, Young was heading north at the Pike 93 crossover on Highway 98 when his vehicle struck the bus traveling westbound. Both Young and Simmons were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

 

In response to the accident, officials from MGCCC issued a statement confirming that all students aboard the college bus were unharmed and safe following the incident.
