Fatal Adams County vehicle death of Irl Therit Jr. – Obituary.

A man from Conewago Township passed away after being struck by his own truck on Thursday. The 63-year-old, identified as Irl Therit Jr., was confirmed deceased at York Hospital after being airlifted there, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

 

As reported by the coroner, Therit had parked his manual-transmission rollback flatbed truck on his property before walking behind it. Unfortunately, the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing it to roll back and hit him. The incident occurred without any other individuals involved.

 

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on the 3500 block of Centennial Road around 1:33 p.m. on September 26, 2024. Therit was transported from the Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services fire station via medical helicopter after sustaining critical injuries. He passed away at approximately 3:11 p.m. on the same day.

 

No autopsy is scheduled, but routine toxicology tests were conducted. Therit was the owner of Therit’s Auto Repair, which was located at his residence on Centennial Road.
