Fatal Freeborn County car crash death of Luke Mathew Hershey – Obituary

The State Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash involving a construction truck on a rural highway in Freeborn County. Luke Mathew Hershey, a 26-year-old man from Hartford, passed away after his vehicle collided head-on with a construction truck early Thursday morning.

 

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 3:30 a.m. near Highway 13, approximately 15 miles north of Albert Lea. Hershey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The State Patrol confirmed that he was not impaired by alcohol.

 

The truck involved in the collision was driven by 80-year-old Dwight Craig Kleinschrodt of Albert Lea. Kleinschrodt, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported to a nearby hospital.

 

Multiple agencies, including the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, New Richland Police Department, and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the crash site.
