A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the families of Alana Lowey and her boyfriend, Aiden Vella, who were victims of a hit-and-run on September 25th near Bobcaygeon. Nineteen-year-old Alana Lowey tragically lost her life at the scene, while Aiden Vella was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries.
The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. when a passerby found the pair in a ditch along County Road 36, north of Moon Line Road. First responders, including the Peterborough County OPP, EMS, and fire services, arrived shortly after.
Carl Lee, an 86-year-old from Bobcaygeon, has been charged in connection with the incident for failing to stop at the scene of the accident, resulting in both death and bodily harm. He is due in court on November 5, 2024.
The fundraiser aims to assist Lowey’s family in covering the costs of returning her body to Saskatchewan and to support Vella’s family as he recovers from his injuries.
