Authorities have confirmed that Christopher Hallahan, a 34-year-old man from Westbrook, Connecticut, was killed when a boat carrying nine people crashed into a jetty near Old Saybrook on Monday night. Two other men, who had been missing for four days following the crash, were also found dead on Friday, though their identities have not yet been released.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. when the 31-foot motorboat struck a jetty at the mouth of the Connecticut River where it meets Long Island Sound. Hallahan was pronounced dead at the scene, and six others were taken to the hospital with injuries.
The boat was returning from a day trip to Block Island, Rhode Island. None of the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and authorities have been conducting a thorough search using divers, drones, and sonar to locate the missing individuals.
This incident marks the second boat crash in the area in recent years, though environmental conservation police have downplayed suggestions that the site is unusually hazardous.
