Cody Johnson, a 19-year-old, was tragically found shot in his car on a busy freeway in Katy, Texas, after heading out to pick up his girlfriend from work. The incident occurred on Friday night along the Katy Freeway, near Highway 99, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to reports of a black 2011 Camaro with gold rims moving slowly down the highway. Upon arriving at the scene around 8 p.m., officers discovered Johnson unresponsive from gunshot wounds. He was immediately airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that investigators are treating the case as a possible road rage incident, but no suspects have been identified at this time.
Johnson’s family, heartbroken by the sudden loss, spoke to local media. His father, Mike Johnson, urged those responsible to come forward, expressing frustration that no witnesses had come forward despite the busy nature of the freeway. “It happened, people saw it… he was 200 yards away from the Memorial Hermann Helicopter pad in Katy, and nobody stopped until police found him,” Mike Johnson said.
The family is appealing for justice as they seek answers for what led to Cody’s tragic death.
