An employee at Century Aluminum has tragically passed away after falling 15 feet while working at the facility in Goose Creek, South Carolina. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Daniel E. McCoy from Summerville.
The incident occurred on September 27, and McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office. Coroner Darnell Hartwell reported that McCoy suffered traumatic injuries from the fall, which was reported to authorities around 4:54 p.m. that day.
Berkeley County EMS and the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department responded to the scene. Following the incident, Century Aluminum expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating they are providing support for McCoy’s family and colleagues. The company is also conducting an internal investigation and is cooperating with local authorities and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
