Edward Johnson dies in fatal Mesa police shooting
Fatal Mesa police shooting death of Edward Johnson – Obituary.
Early Sunday morning, 37-year-old Edward Johnson was shot and killed by a Mesa police officer, as confirmed by the Mesa Police Department. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. near 104th Street and Bramble Avenue.
The situation unfolded when an officer tried to stop Johnson, who was riding a bicycle, for a traffic violation near Broadway Road and Cheshire Avenue. Johnson did not comply and fled along a canal, where he was later confronted. According to police, Johnson pointed a weapon at the officer, prompting the officer to shoot. It was later revealed that the weapon was a replica gun.
Johnson was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after. No other injuries were reported. The East Valley Critical Response Team is investigating the shooting.
