Fatal Santa Cruz County incident death of Helen “Pookie” Hines – Obituary.
An 82-year-old woman, identified as Helen “Pookie” Hines, has died following a collision with an electric bicycle in Santa Cruz County. The accident occurred early Friday morning around 5:50 AM on Opal Cliff Drive, east of Court Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Hines was walking east when she collided with an 80-year-old man from Santa Cruz riding the e-bike. The specifics of the crash remain unclear, but Hines sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Valley Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Her daughter, Cindy Diola, shared that her mother was out for her regular morning walk when the incident occurred. The male rider also suffered injuries and was transported to Dominican Hospital via ground ambulance.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation, though authorities do not currently suspect drugs or alcohol as contributing factors
