The Winnebago County Coroner has identified the victim of a shooting at the MaxMart convenience store in Rockford as 30-year-old Randy Johnson. The incident occurred on Friday night when police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:08 p.m. at 922 Kilburn Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that an argument had erupted between the shooter and a group of individuals. Police have arrested 51-year-old Murphy Doss, who allegedly opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. He was apprehended shortly after at the Belvidere Oasis.
The coroner confirmed that Johnson succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The condition of the second victim, also 30 years old, remains unknown. Doss faces charges that include two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
