Austin police have identified Ahsun Madison, a 16-year-old boy, as the victim of a homicide that occurred on Monday night in north Austin. Another 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Officers responded to several 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 9100 block of Northgate Boulevard around 8:20 p.m. Witnesses indicated that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, police discovered Madison with clear signs of trauma. Despite efforts from APD officers, EMS, and the Austin Fire Department to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9:00 p.m.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Austin Police Department stated that the suspect, also a 16-year-old Hispanic male, has been charged with first-degree murder. His identity has not been disclosed to the public due to his juvenile status. This individual had a history of prior arrests related to shootings and was reportedly out on bond at the time of this incident.
Authorities believe the shooting took place at an apartment complex, after which the suspect fled the scene. Gang detectives later located and apprehended him. He has been booked into the Gardner Betts Juvenile Center on the charge of first-degree murder.
The suspect was previously involved in multiple shootings earlier this year, including a homicide on January 8 in the same vicinity, although he was not the shooter in that incident.
The case is being treated as Austin’s 48th homicide of 2024. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program for potential rewards leading to an arrest.
