Fatal Camden hit-and-run crash claims the life of Carla Mahan – Obituary.
On September 25, a tragic hit-and-run incident occurred at the intersection of 7th Street and Tulip Street in Camden, New Jersey, resulting in the death of 41-year-old Carla Mahan. The collision happened shortly before 3:30 p.m., and upon arrival, police found Mahan lying in a grassy area. She was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have charged 30-year-old Ajee Williams with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. Williams turned herself in to Camden County police on September 28. The investigation revealed that video footage captured a grey Dodge Durango arriving at the intersection shortly before the crash. The video shows a pedestrian approaching the vehicle before walking toward the grassy lot.
Moments later, the footage indicates that the Durango reversed and drove over the curb toward where Mahan was located. Investigators allege that Williams intentionally struck Mahan before fleeing the scene. The vehicle, registered to Williams, was later located and processed for evidence, which included human tissue, flesh, and hair found beneath the SUV.
Reports suggest that there may have been children in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Video evidence also shows Williams picking up two children from school shortly before the crash occurred. Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about the case to contact Detective Daniel Crawford of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit.
