A tragic incident unfolded on January 25, 2024, when 40-year-old Dymond T. Fryson lost his life following a hit-and-run collision involving 18-year-old Alexander L. Vargas. At the time of the crash, Vargas, who was 17, was driving a Ford Explorer and allegedly under the influence of marijuana.
The collision occurred just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Palmer and Sherman avenues in Teaneck, where Vargas struck Fryson’s Nissan Rogue. After the crash, Vargas fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after by Teaneck Police. Fryson was pronounced dead the following day.
Vargas initially faced charges as a minor, but following an investigation revealing he was speeding at approximately 60 mph in a residential area and disregarding multiple stop signs, he has now been charged as an adult with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and endangering an injured victim. After a recent detention hearing, Vargas was released under home detention while awaiting further legal proceedings.
