A tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning when Caitlynn Heron, a 23-year-old woman, lost her life after her car crashed into a canal in Cooper City, Florida. The accident took place around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Griffin Road and Southwest 90th Avenue, prompting a swift response from deputies and fire rescue teams.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Heron was driving an Infiniti G37XS when the vehicle veered off course, struck a raised concrete sidewalk, collided with the wall of a small bridge, and ultimately became airborne before plunging into the water. While a passenger, identified as 24-year-old Joseph Foster from Davie, managed to escape the vehicle, Heron was found deceased inside.
Her mother confirmed her identity through matching tattoos they shared. Joseph Foster was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Emergency responders worked diligently at the scene, with divers searching the canal and a significant presence of emergency vehicles visible in aerial footage.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and both Griffin Road and Orange Drive experienced temporary closures as a result of the incident.
