A tragic incident unfolded on the Katy Freeway in Texas, where 19-year-old Cody Johnson was found shot dead in his vehicle after he had set out to pick up his girlfriend from work on Friday night. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was driving a 2011 black Camaro with gold rims near Highway 99 when he was fatally shot.
Authorities received reports of the car rolling down the busy freeway, prompting officers to respond around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Johnson unresponsive, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was subsequently airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that the investigation is exploring the possibility of road rage as a motive for the shooting, although no suspects have been identified at this time. Family members of Johnson expressed their anguish and desire for justice, appealing for information regarding the incident.
Johnson’s father, Mike Johnson, emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “If you’re strong enough to pull the trigger, you’re strong enough to stand up and say, ‘you know what, I made a mistake’. Nobody values life.” He highlighted the busy nature of the freeway, noting that Johnson was only 200 yards away from a helicopter pad when no one intervened until police arrived.
