The State Highway Patrol has confirmed the identity of the motorist who lost his life in a three-vehicle collision on NC 210, near Old Stage Road, at the Harnett-Johnston County line. The incident occurred on Monday at 5:27 PM. Troopers reported that 53-year-old Gregory Wayne Cornell from Clayton was driving southbound in a Chevy Tahoe when he crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound Ford box truck. Following the impact, a tire from Cornell’s vehicle detached and struck an Angier police patrol car traveling behind him. Tragically, Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the box truck, whose name has not been released, was taken to WakeMed with injuries that are currently undisclosed. Fortunately, the Angier police officer was unharmed. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, led by Trooper J.L. Burton.
