Fatal Willard Peak BASE jumping accident death of Jonathan Bizilia – Obituary.

An Alabama man, 27-year-old Jonathan Bizilia, tragically lost his life while BASE jumping in Utah’s rugged terrain. His body was discovered near Willard Peak on September 27 after a friend alerted the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office around 2 p.m. that Bizilia had not provided the expected update following his jump using a wingsuit.

 

A coordinated search effort was launched, utilizing possible jump locations and flight paths supplied by his friend. About two hours into the search, a Department of Public Safety helicopter located Bizilia’s body approximately one mile northwest of Willard Peak.

 

The sheriff’s office confirmed that Bizilia had crashed and was unresponsive when found. Rescue teams from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, Weber County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies assisted in the recovery efforts.

 

In a statement, the sheriff’s office extended condolences to Bizilia’s family and friends during this difficult time. BASE jumping, a highly adventurous sport, involves launching from fixed structures like cliffs and bridges, distinguishing it from traditional skydiving.
