Fatal Flaming Geyser State Park drowning death of Juan Macias Martinez – Obituary
Juan Macias Martinez, 28, tragically drowned on September 21, 2024, in a river at Flaming Geyser State Park. According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Martinez died due to asphyxia by drowning, and the death was ruled accidental.
Emergency services were alerted that evening, and rescue teams from the King County Sheriff’s Office and Marine Rescue Dive Unit searched for nearly an hour before recovering Martinez. Rescue attempts were unsuccessful, and it is believed that water entering Martinez’s waders contributed to the drowning. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
