A tragic accident occurred east of Melbourne on Sunday, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Stefan Andrew Barthelot. The young car enthusiast was driving along Healesville-Koo Wee Up Road in Yellingbo around 4:40 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Barthelot had been living in Melbourne for the past five years. He suffered critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. Friends described him as a “loving and kind-hearted” individual who had hoped to build a future for himself and his family back in Sri Lanka.
In the aftermath of the accident, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help his grieving family with travel expenses to Australia and funeral costs. The police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, which remains under investigation by Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol. Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
