A 57-year-old man from Macungie has been identified as the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life on Wednesday morning after colliding with a deer in Lehigh County. Donald E. Guldin was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:04 a.m. from multiple blunt force trauma injuries, with the cause of death ruled accidental by the Lehigh County Coroner, Daniel A. Buglio.
According to Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem, the incident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Route 100 near Windy Road in Lowhill Township. The collision led to the closure of the northbound lanes of Route 100 for nearly three hours, with traffic diverted onto Route 100 south during the investigation. All lanes reopened by 8:12 a.m.
This accident marks the second fatal motorcycle incident involving a deer in Lehigh County within a 24-hour period. Earlier, at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, 64-year-old Frederick R. Brauchle III from Heidelberg Township was killed in a similar collision on Mountain Road in Washington Township. He also died from blunt force trauma, with the manner of death ruled accidental.
The investigation into Guldin’s accident continues, assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop M Forensic Services Unit, the Fogelsville Fire Department, and Cetronia Emergency Medical Services.
