Fatal Jacksonville hit-and-run crash death of Alaysha Williams – Obituary.

The community is mourning the loss of Alaysha Williams, a senior at Edward H. White High School, who tragically died following a hit-and-run incident early Monday morning. The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. while Williams was attempting to cross Blanding Boulevard, resulting in life-threatening injuries that led to her death.

Family, friends, and classmates are devastated by the news, as Williams was a well-loved multi-sport athlete, contributing significantly to both the girls basketball and flag football teams at her school. She was struck by a vehicle in the 3900 block of Blanding Boulevard, near Cedar Hills Boulevard, and was transported to Orange Park Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver briefly stopped in a nearby parking lot to check for damage before fleeing the scene southbound on Blanding Boulevard. Authorities are actively searching for a white Toyota Yaris or a similar vehicle with noticeable damage to the right front end.

Tributes poured in from the community, including heartfelt messages from the Ed White girls basketball team, which posted on social media, “Literally my heart, love you to death… [jersey number] 25 forever…. she knew family… she knew love… she knew sisterhood.” The Eagle’s View Academy girls basketball team also expressed their condolences, stating, “Eagle’s View Academy Women’s Basketball stands with Ed White Women’s Basketball as the community mourns the loss of Alaysha Williams. #Justice4Lay #25.”

Williams was known for her outstanding performance on the basketball court, where she served as the starting point guard and team captain, and for her crucial role in leading the flag football team to the Gateway Conference championship. She scored the game-winning touchdown in the finals against Fletcher in April and helped her team reach the regional finals.

In response to the tragedy, grief counselors from Duval County Public Schools were made available to support students, and the school’s volleyball match scheduled for that evening was canceled in Williams’ honor. This incident echoes a previous tragedy in the area, as another young athlete, Michael Walton Jr., was also killed in a hit-and-run crash while on his way to take the ACT in September 2021.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about the crash to reach out to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or provide tips anonymously through First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
