Authorities have confirmed the identity of a Boise pedestrian who lost his life after being struck by a minivan on Tuesday night in Fruitland. The tragic incident occurred around 10:19 p.m. when a 43-year-old man from Payette, who was driving the minivan, hit Benjamin as he walked in a lane of travel near the intersection of Northwest 16th Street and Allen Avenue, according to the Idaho State Police.
Emergency responders airlifted Frederick Benjamin, 59, to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, but he succumbed to his injuries at 6:51 a.m. on Wednesday while in the intensive care unit. The coroner reported that Benjamin died from traumatic blunt force injuries, though the official manner of death remains pending.
The Idaho State Police is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, with assistance from the Payette County Sheriff’s Office, Fruitland Police Department, and Payette County Paramedics.
