An 8-year-old girl named Jeanelle Fredericks tragically lost her life after being struck by a school bus in Madison, Mississippi, on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m., and despite immediate medical assistance from first responders, Jeanelle later succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a bicycle under the back of the bus, and other children exiting the bus stated, “She was under the bus.” Jeanelle was transported by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
In a public statement, Madison County Schools expressed their condolences to the family and announced that additional counselors would be available starting Thursday to support students and staff at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary and Madison Avenue Elementary. They encouraged parents to contact the counselor’s office for resources during this challenging time. The children on the bus have since been reunited with their families.
