Fatal Hobart train accident death of Keith Deering – Obituary.

Keith Deering, a 38-year-old resident of New Chicago, lost his life after being struck by a train on Tuesday while walking on the railroad tracks with headphones on. The tragic incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of 41st Avenue and Wisconsin Street.

Deering was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision. Authorities, including Hobart police, the Lake County coroner’s office, and the railroad, are conducting a joint investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Deering was walking in the center of the tracks while listening to music.

Hobart Police Chief Garrett Ciszewski expressed condolences to Deering’s family, stating, “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time, as Mr. Deering was a husband and father.” He also urged the public to exercise caution near railway tracks and to heed all safety warnings and signals. While the tracks are not frequently used, it is important to note that walking along the tracks constitutes a Class B misdemeanor.
