In a tragic incident during Hurricane Helene, Kobe Williams, 27, and her newborn twin sons, Khyzier and Khazmir, lost their lives in Thomson, Georgia. As the hurricane lashed through the area, Kobe was sheltering in her trailer home, following her father’s advice to stay safe with her month-old babies. Unfortunately, a large tree fell through the roof of their home, crushing Kobe and fatally injuring her infants.
Obie Williams, Kobe’s father, described the heart-wrenching moment he learned about the incident when he sent a brother to check on her. He recalled hearing the cries of the babies and the sound of branches hitting the windows during their last conversation. “Now I’ll never get to meet my grandsons. It’s devastating,” he expressed, reflecting on his grief.
The twins, born on August 20, are recognized as the youngest victims of the storm, which has claimed over 200 lives across several states, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and the Carolinas. The devastation left behind has trapped many family members without power, while they await the release of the bodies by the county coroner and the clearance of roads to hold a funeral.
Kobe was described as a vibrant and caring person who was devoted to her children. She had taken a break from her studies to give birth and had a dream of becoming a nursing assistant. Her father fondly remembered her as a beloved daughter who brought joy to those around her.
